The Aspelund Family

Andrew and Hannah Aspelund are from Ames, IA and stayed at our MercyOne House for 47 nights while their daughter, Isla, received extra care in the MercyOne NICU. Having Fetal Growth Restriction, she was born in September 2022 weighing 3 pounds, 2 ounces. Although she was very small, Isla was doing well and getting off oxygen quickly and eventually fluids. Doctors also observed her struggling to regulate her blood sugar. With medication, these levels also started to stabilize. With normal levels, she had more energy to eat and improved at feedings.

On November 15th Andrew, Hannah, and Isla were able to go home as a family!

Mom said, "I don't think there are enough words to properly thank all the staff and RMH for all that they have done for us these past 5 weeks. From delicious home cooked meals to a comfortable bed, snacks, drinks and a designated space to store breast milk - they really have put the needs of families first and foremost. The cherry on top was being in the hospital - the amount of stress and anxiety this alleviated - never too far from our baby."
