Family Service Interns:

Meet Meredith! Meredith is one of the Ronald McDonald House’s Family Services Interns for the spring semester. She currently is a student at Iowa State University. During her time at Iowa State she was involved in the Love Your Melon Campus Crew as a volunteer and works for ChildServe previously as a teacher assistant and now a teacher. Within these roles, Meredith was able to build relationships with the families and their children. Helping families and children has always been a passion of hers, which brings her to us, to help fulfill this passion as she continues to help serve the families at the Ronald McDonald House!

This spring, Meredith will receive her bachelor’s degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services with an emphasis on children. Following graduation from Iowa State, Meredith is excited and hopeful to continue her passion for helping families at another Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City.

During the time she has been interning at the Ronald McDonald House, Meredith has enjoyed connecting with the families and helping them in their time at the house. Seeing families come and go is very bittersweet and Meredith feels honored to have been able to help in anyway possible during their time at the Ronald McDonald House. Some of her favorite memories have been playing with children in the playroom; talking with families and helping us continue our mission to “keep families close.”

Meet Tina! Tina is currently serving as one of our semesterly Family Services Intern here at the Ronald McDonald House. She is currently a Sophomore attending Drake University where she is majoring in Health Science Services Management. Tina is actively involved in many organizations on campus, such as the Health Science Student Governance Association, Social Sorority – Delta Gamma, Business Fraternity – Alpha Kappa Psi and the Donald. V Adams Leadership Institute. Within these organizations, Tina is currently serving as a VP of Public Relations for her business fraternity and is a Health and Relationships Officer for her Social Sorority. Tina is constantly looking for many opportunities. With her willingness to try new things, brought her to this internship!

During her time so far interning at the Ronald McDonald House, Tina has most enjoyed being a helping hand for families in times of need. Whether it’s as simple as helping to set up for dinner or being a supportive intern, she values every single shift. She enjoys interacting with families from various backgrounds and different cultures and feels that she learns something new! Tina also enjoys interacting with the kids that stay at the Ronald McDonald House and getting the opportunity to be around them. She feels that these precious and little moments she gets to interact with families and kids is what makes both the internship and the Ronald McDonald House so special. Tina is excited to see where the rest of her time here at the House will take her!

Meet Hannah! Hannah is one of the family services interns for the spring.  She is a student at Drake University, where she is involved many campus organizations such as Drake Mock Trial and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.  Hannah is originally from Fargo, ND, where she lives with her mother and father and 2 younger siblings.

3In December 2020, Hannah will graduate from Drake with a degree in Psychology and Law Politics Society.  She plans to enroll in Law School in the Fall and continue working with families and children through the legal system.

Hannah first became familiar with the Ronald McDonald House through her sorority.  Through her sorority she made meals at the Ronald McDonald House and organized a fundraising 5k for the House.  During her time at the Ronald McDonald House, Hannah has most enjoyed getting to know the families staying at the house.

Meet Jonathon! Jonathon is one of six Family Services Interns for the Ronald McDonald House this spring.  He is currently a senior at Iowa State University studying Child Services and Public Relations. At Iowa State, he is involved in Phi Upsilon Omicron Honors Society, Strengthening Families Program 10-14, and Student Union Board. These organizations have offered him leadership and advocacy opportunities that, he feels, have strengthened him both professionally and personally.

Post-graduation he will be attending Loyola University Chicago to pursue his Master of Social Work Healthcare Specialization. During this two-year program he will have the opportunity to advocate for hospitalized children within his field and coursework. This degree will allow him to work with children and families in the healthcare system, providing them with resources necessary during their time of transition.

He has enjoyed many aspects of the Ronald McDonald House, one being the sense of community. He says, interning at The House helped him solidify his desire to become a clinical social worker and pursue a further degree. These experiences, he says, have cemented a deeper interest in The House, and how it is a necessary resource for families during a difficult time. For these reasons, he was grateful to have the RMH community as a part of his life, even for a short time.
