Meet Mariah! Mariah is from Clarence, Iowa. In May, she will be graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, Mariah will be attending graduate school at the University of Iowa for a master’s degree in Child Life. Her career goal is to become a Child Life Specialist at a children’s hospital to be able support and comfort families and children that are going through medical treatment.
Mariah’s internship at the Ronald McDonald House has impacted her by helping prepare her for her future career as a Child Life Specialist. She’s been able to support families that have children going through medical treatment by welcoming families and making them feel at home. Although she’s sad to be leaving the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines, she hopes that she’ll be able to volunteer at a Ronald McDonald House in the future!
Meet Sloane! Sloane is from Johnston, Iowa. In May, she will be graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Child, Adult and Family Services. Sloane has always had a passion for helping others, which reflects on her favorite quote, “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the services of others” – Mahatma Gandhi.
Sloane’s internship experience at the Ronald McDonald House has allowed her to become a listening ear to family members staying at the House, and make them feel at home. This experience has taught her a lot and has allowed her to master a more proficient use of her skill set. Sloane’s next step into her adventure is working for the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines this coming summer.
Meet Jessica! Jessica is originally from West Des Moines, Iowa. She is graduating from Iowa State University in May of 2018 with a major in Child, Adult and Family Services. Jessica loves to help others in any way she can, and is always a listening ear for those who need it.
Jessica is extremely grateful for her internship with the Ronald McDonald House. She believes it has taught her so much, and has prepared her for the “real world”. During her internship Jessica answered phone calls, oversaw the front desk, sort donations, welcome guests, serve as a resource for the families, and helped with anything else around the House.
Even though Jessica is sad to leave the RMH here in Des Moines, she will be moving to Orlando, Florida to be the Assistant House Manager at the Ronald McDonald House. She is so excited to continue to grow in this amazing organization that she has grown to love so much!
